A bowl of beans is poured into a bowl, and, filling with water, left for several hours. Then poured into a saucepan, poured with a minimum amount of cold water, boiled over low heat, when the water begins to boil, it must be replenished to the previous volume, periodically pouring the cold (namely cold!) water.
